In Hamlet and Lion King, the theme of greed can be found in the parallel characters of Claudius and Scar, the uncles of the main characters. Claudius and Scar both kill their esteemed brothers in order to take the throne, and seek to live a life of luxury. The hedonistic Claudius throws extravagant parties and lusts after Gertrude, while Scar lazes about, not accomplishing much, having fulfilled his desires.

Hamlet and Simba both desire revenge when their learn of their uncles’ treachery. Hamlet learns of his father’s death at the hands of his uncle rather early on in the play, and spends the rest of his time deciding what to do, how to prove his uncle’s guilt, and how to seek retribution. He is plagued by indecision and inner conflict about finding out the truth. Simba, on the other hand, was not aware that Scar killed his father and fled, eventually putting his past behind him. Simba only learns the true details of Mufasa’s murder during his fight with Scar and exacts justice upon him by leaving Scar to fall victim to the hyenas.
